Hugo Boss founded his uniform business in 1924 in Metzingen, Germany. His company struggled in its first seven years until he began selling uniforms to the Nazi Party and became a member. After World War Ii ended, his ability to continue running his business was blocked. He died in 1948, but his son-in-law Eugen Holy took over ownership and leadership duties. The business shifted towards manufacturing mens ready-made suits. In 1985, the company achieved the growth needed to be publicly traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The first fragrance was also launched in the same year.
