America Cologne by Perry Ellis, 1996 saw the release of a great new cologne from Perry Ellis: America. This masculine scent contains top notes of pineapple, bergamot, oregano, anise and ferns. The heart adds lavender, geranium, basil, palmarosa, vetiver and neroli to the composition. Finally, the base consists of cedar, sandalwood, musk, leather and amber.
While Perry Ellis' first fashion brand would not come into existence until 1978, he first entered the business world as a buyer and merchandiser. He earned a master's degree from New York University in retailing. He co-founded a retail store while in Virginia, but when he moved back to New York, he saw an opportunity to create his own womenswear collection. After his official brand launched, Ellis branched out into other areas, including menswear, accessories and fragrances. The first perfumes from the company were launched in 1985. Ellis passed away in 1986, but his legacy lives on in each new creation, including America cologne.
